Kevin and Perry Go Large!
One of the most difficult off-road races in the world, the Paris-Dakar rally attracts competitors from around the world. Yet this year’s edition will be the first to feature the participation of two Maltese entrants, representatives from Azure Resorts, Kevin Camilleri and Perry Newton.
In preparation for the rally, Kevin and Perry are currently training with the Desert rose racing team. Owned by Patsy Quick, who is the first British woman to have ever competed in the Heroes Legend, this UK-based rally team will also be taking part in the event.
“While training in Morocco, we encountered a number of sand dunes which were almost as large as Malta,” says Kevin. “Travelling across such environments can be problematic as your bike can easily sink in the sand. Pulling it back out can take you as much as 30 minutes which, at 45°C, fully kitted, and with most exhausting thing i have ever done.”
People will be able to follow Kevin and Perry’s journey online through either their website or through that of the rally.
Kevin and Perry hope that their participation in the Heroes Legend will raise some money for the Malta Community Chest Fund, UNICEF and Cancer Research UK.
