One of Spain’s favourite holiday destinations, La Manga Club, is celebrating after being crowned as Spain’s best golf resort. The five-star resort, which is a popular choice with timeshare owners, beat off stiff competition to be voted as top resort by readers of Today Golfer magazine for the second year running.
The Murcia-based hotel and golf club received an impressive 45 per cent of the vote – 32 per cent more than its nearest challenger. La Manga, which opened in 1972, boasts three 18-hole championship golf courses, as well as other sports and leisure facilities and numerous bars and restaurants.
Gary Silcock, La Manga Club’s new director of golf, said: "It’s a great honour to be voted as the best resort in Spain for the second year running. To win such a significant award in successive years is a major achievement and is recognition for the high regard that La Manga Club continues to be held in by golfers across the UK."
La Manga Club often plays host to high-profile professional and amateur tournaments and is one of Spain’s best-known resorts. Europe’s top amateur golfers will meet there at the end of February to take part in the 2013 Copa S.M El Rey, the Spanish International Amateur Championship. And tennis will take centre stage at the club over the next few years, too, following the news that the resort recently signed a deal with the Lawn Tennis Association to be the British tennis governing body’s overseas training base until June 2016.
