The impact the new EU timeshare directive will have on Maltese businesses was amongst the issues highlighted by RDO at a seminar organised by Group RCI in Malta.
Representatives from RDO and the Malta Tourism Authority presented updates on legislation, tourism statistics and issues affecting the Maltese timeshare industry to a group of around 40 developers and marketers gathered at the “It’s all about Malta” seminar. The Malta Tourism Authority expressed their appreciation of working with Group RCI in implementing joint marketing initiatives.
Following the seminar and a series of one to one meetings with RDO, 4 companies have expressed their intent to becoming members of RDO and negotiations with others will continue over the next week.
RDO will start discussions with the Malta Tourism Authority over the next month regarding the process of implementation of the timeshare directive in the country. Both organisations are also committed to finding a suitable self-regulation system for OPC activity, a preferred option to implementing a complete ban, something that had been suggested as a serious alternative by the Minister in a recent announcement.
