The Board of the Tourism Alliance has announced Sir David Michels as the new Tourism Alliance President.
In making the announcement, Tourism Alliance chairman, Brigid Simmonds OBE stated, “2012 is a hugely importance year for the tourism industry with the royal wedding and the Olympics providing the opportunity to generate a step-change in international interest in the UK as a destination for both leisure and business visitors. We are therefore extremely pleased that Sir David has agreed to become the Alliance’s new President and lend his expertise in helping take forward the tourism agenda with Government”
In accepting the position, Sir David commented, “I am delighted to join the Tourism Alliance as its President and look forward to working with the Government on how we can maximise the benefits of tourism to the UK economy. The development of the Government’s new aviation strategy, combined with the implementation of the Minister’s Regulation Taskforce report and the need to resolve issues such as Air Passenger Duty and Visa processing make this a pivotal period for the industry.”
“The Government has rightly identified tourism as one of the few industries that can quickly provide much needed growth and employment. Our task will be to ensure that this acknowledgement is translated into policies that make the UK a more competitive tourism destination.”
