TATOC, the Timeshare Association (Timeshare Owners and Committees) claims that their new HelpLine handled more than 6,000 calls in 2008, helping timeshare owners save more than £1 million.
The Helpline was set up last year with funding provided by the Timeshare Partnership Trust, a body set up and funded by RDO, to support worthwhile causes in the industry.
More than half of the calls received (60 per cent) were general enquiries. The rest were complaints, mainly related to dubious re-sale practices or scams based on non-timeshare holiday clubs.
According to TATOC, this year the HelpLine has handled 1,400 calls in January and February alone. The service is free of charge and available to member and non-member resorts and individuals.
The success of this initiative was highlighted at the TATOC annual conference in Warrington, Cheshire (England) last month.
