Dionísio Pestana was born and raised in South Africa. The only son of Portuguese immigrants, he began working in his parent’s business at an early age until graduating in Business Management.
He traveled to Madeira Island at the age of 26 to work in his father’s hotel, and discovered a true passion for the hospitality business. He is now owner and chairman of the largest tourism group in Portugal present in 13 countries in 3 continents (Argentina, Brazil, Cape Verde, Colombia, England, Germany, Morocco, Portugal, Mozambique, S. Tomé and Príncipe, South Africa, USA, Venezuela).
Group Pestana owns and manages 94 hotels and has diversified its business interests to include 12 vacation club resorts in Portugal and Brasil, six golf courses, an airline business, tour operating, real estate, a brewery and a free trade zone in Madeira.
The Pestana Group employs 7000 people and celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2012.
