UK Government Allocates £8million to Attract Chinese Visitors to the UK

Jeremy Hunt announced that, on the back of the very successful “Britain’s Great” and “20.12” campaigns, and the triumph of staging one of the best Olympics ever, the Government will be allocating;

  • £8 million to a marketing campaign targeting Chinese visitors
  • £2 million to a marketing campaign to boost domestic tourism

The Secretary of State also set targets of

  • increasing overseas visitors to the UK from just over 30 million today to 40 million by 2020
  • trebling the number of Chinese visitors we attract, getting to 500,000 by 2015 (although he agreed that more work needed to be done on visas and aviation capacity to achieve the targets for China)
  • doubling the number of domestic package breaks being booked
