Novasol by Wyndham Vacation Rentals, a leading provider of unique holiday accommodations and part of the Wyndham Worldwide family of brands (NYSE: WYN), announced that it has completed its acquisition of Berlin-based Wimdu.
Through this acquisition, Novasol adds a leading holiday rental technology platform to complement its core professionally managed business while also expanding the offerings it can provide homeowners with a service-lite model. As the latest addition to the Novasol team, Wimdu becomes part of a Wyndham Vacation Rentals network that offers holiday rentals in more than 600 unique destinations around the world through renowned rental brands such as Hoseasons, Landal GreenParks, cottages.com and James Villa Holidays.
“With this acquisition, we not only significantly grow the holiday options we can offer travelers in popular urban destinations, but we also gain another distribution channel to leverage on behalf of our existing homeowners,” said Bernd Muckenschnabel, managing director for Novasol. “This addition strengthens our leadership position within the European holiday rental market and is part of our ongoing effort to provide the widest variety of holiday experiences possible for travellers.”
The addition of Wimdu is the latest in a series of moves aimed to expand Wyndham’s urban offerings in response to the increased demand for city holidays. Earlier this month, Wyndham entered into a strategic partnership with Veeve, the market-leader in upscale London rentals for short stays, with a managed portfolio of more than 1,000 hand-picked homes across the city. This past September, Wyndham, through its Novasol brand, acquired the apartment rental company Friendly Rentals, which provides holidays at approximately 2,000 apartments in 23 selected international cities, primarily throughout central and southern Europe.
Founded in 2011, Wimdu has quickly grown into one of the top five largest online holiday rental technology platforms. From apartments in Rome to holiday homes in Mallorca and city studios in Paris, Wimdu offers thousands of property listings in more than 100 countries, with more than one million registered users. The Wimdu brand will continue to exist as it does today. Daily operations of Wimdu including management and employees will continue as usual.
