John Spence, CEO and Chairman of Karma Royal Group, will join leading global entrepreneurs on the judging panel for the 2013 Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur of the Year Awards to be awarded on June 6th in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Yearis the world’s most prestigious business award for entrepreneurs. The award makes a difference through the unique way it encourages entrepreneurial activity and recognizes the contribution of people who inspire others through vision, leadership and achievement. As the first and only truly global award of its kind, Entrepreneur of the Year celebrates those who are building and leading successful, growing and dynamic businesses, recognizing them through regional, national and global awards programs in more than 140 cities in over 50 countries. Each year, the overall winners from each country gather in Monte Carlo for the annual Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year Award. Guest speakers at this year’s gala ceremony include Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations, 1997-2006; Mika Hakkinen, two time champion F1 driver; John Cleese, actor, author and humorist; Dr. Dambisa Moyo, internationally renowned economist and author; James Mwangi, CEO and Managing Director of Equity Bank Ltd and last year’s winner; and Sir Timothy Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web.
John’s experience as the 2010 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Australia and then judge for Entrepreneur Of The Year Australia, coupled with his knowledge of the entrepreneurial market and sector trends around the globe, is exceptional and lays an excellent foundation to evaluate each of the candidates. John is the fourth Australian Judge to be honoured as a member of the Judging Panel in the history of the Awards, following the esteemed Founder and Executive Chairman of Competitive Foods Australia Ltd, Jack Cowin and has earned a position among an elite group of captains of industry, leaders in their professions and academia, and previous Entrepreneur Of The Year winners.

The judging process for the Awards is extensive. Finalists at World Entrepreneur Of The Year are assessed by an independent panel of judges from around the world, most of whom have previously participated in Entrepreneur Of The Year programs. Ernst & Young personnel are not involved in the judging process. The judging panel receive written information on the entrepreneurs representing more than 50 countries prior to their arrival in Monte Carlo then meet with each other and the finalists several times, assessing the candidates according to the following set of criteria including:
– Entrepreneurial spirit
– Personal integrity/influence
– Financial performance
– Strategic direction
– National/global impact
