Crack down on timeshare touts in Cyprus

Tourism officials in the Cypriot resort of Paphos have introduced new penalties and an increased police presence to crack down on illegal timeshare touts, according to reports in the Cyprus Mail.

Nassos Hadjigeorgiou from the Paphos regional board of tourism said a concerted effort is underway to rid the resort of illegal touts before the start of the summer season, with fines of more than 1500 euros and more police officers patrolling the worst affected areas.

A telephone hotline to help tourists will also be launched and leaflets distributed to all hotels and hotel apartments warning tourists to beware of touts.

Aggressive timeshare touts have become an increasing problem in Paphos in recent years, targeting visitors along the seafront and even inside top-class hotels.
