Representatives from Hapimag and RCI recently organised a meeting with the German Ministry of Tourism in order to increase awareness of timeshare and create a more positive image of the industry.
The meeting was held with Ernst Burgbacher, Parliamentary Secretary, Federal Government Commissioner for Tourism; Werner Loscheider, Head of Division Tourism Policy and Manfred Ruprich, Tourism contact at the Federal Ministry of Economics in Berlin.
During the meeting, the positive aspects of shared ownership were presented including high year-round occupancy levels; robust financing of timeshare resorts; international marketing opportunities & destination marketing; the advantages over second home developments; economically and ecologically sustainable concept; and international exchange opportunities for timeshare owners.
RCI and Hapimag were critical of the negative PR that consumer protection agencies deliver each year without taking note of positive changes such as the recently introduced European Directive and new industry developments.
The committee responded very positively to the points raised, seeing the opportunities that timeshare brings to Germany.
Both parties agreed that the issue of timeshare should be raised at an official Hearing of the Parliament. The first step will be a meeting with members of the parliament responsible for tourism on 12th November.
The Ministry also promised to follow up on negative "warning" campaigns at German airports in the beginning of the summer season, for example ‘beware of timeshare crooks’.
