The 2009 American Resort Development Association (ARDA) Conference had a special significance as the trade association celebrates its landmark 40th anniversary this year, an opportunity to look at the achievements of the past and draw a new road map for the future.
Almost three thousand timeshare industry professionals gathered at his year’s ARDA convention and tradeshow, hosted at the Orlando World Center Marriott from 29 March-2 April. The event showcased 164 exhibitors, including 36 new exhibiting companies.
Members of the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association joined this year’s ARDA Convention for the first time, as a new strategic partnership agreement between both associations was announced at the event.
Participants reviewed the evolution of the timeshare industry in the association’s 40 years during a comprehensive programme of forums and educational sessions addressing topics from finance to cross-industry developments, hospitality, fractionals and private residence clubs.
Industry executives also shared industry practices and knowledge of the most recent trends and marketing tools, from green management to the use of online media.
Howard Nusbaum, ARDA President and CEO, was optimistic about the future: “Although the industry has been hit hard by the current credit crisis, the fundamentals remain sound, especially in fulfilling the need for better vacationing at a great value. The entrepreneurial nature and creative spirit of our members will continue to meet the needs of a new generation of Americans eager to answer their wanderlust with vacation ownership.”
