Diamond Resorts International® is supporting Give Us Time, a charity that helps military families adjust to life after combat, with a donation worth £30,000.
The Balkan Jewel Resort in Bulgaria, a Club affiliated resort in the Diamond Resorts International® portfolio of worldwide destinations, became home to military personnel, mostly from the Abingdon and Gurkha regiments, and their families during the week of 20th March 2015. The event was arranged in partnership with Give Us Time, which was launched in 2012 by Dr. Liam Fox MP and aims to assist military personnel in need of rest, rehabilitation and reconnection with their families.
Chris Grech, owner of The Balkan Jewel, became aware of the Give Us Time organisation following the RDO Conference in November 2014 and was so impressed by their work that he approached the charity to say he would like to make a significant donation of space and happily open his doors to families looking for a relaxing break. Many of the personnel assisted by Give Us Time have had serious injuries and need support in terms of rebuilding their lives and relationships.
The Balkan Jewel Resort is located in the Razlog Valley near Bansko, surrounded by Bulgaria’s three mountain ranges Pirin, Rila and the Rhodopes, providing easy access to the ski slopes. In addition to a week’s accommodation, Diamond Resorts International® organised transfers from the airport, a welcome event for all guests and also arranged for local entertainment each evening. Give Us Time contributed to the families’ flight and equipment hire costs.
Commenting on the event, David Palmer, President and CEO of Diamond Resorts International®, said: “Give US Time is a fantastic initiative, which we are proud to support. The charity was set up as a support system to soldiers. Re-adjusting to family life while dealing with the traumas of an operational tour can be extremely difficult, even more so with physical or psychological damage.”
Diamond Resorts International® strongly believes in the positive health effects holidays have on people. According to a 2013 Nielsen study conducted on behalf of Diamond Resorts International®, research found that people who commit to taking holidays on a regular basis are generally happier, healthier and have better relationships than those who don’t.
