The Canary Islands becomes the first Spanish region in which tourists will be covered for travel assistance relating to COVID-19

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Canary Islands Government has signed an agreement with AXA Spain for the subscription of a travel assistance policy applicable to all tourists traveling to the Islands, whether foreign or national, and with the order to respond to incidents related to the Covid-19, among which is the need to extend quarantine stays. The agreement was signed by the regional councilor Yaiza Castilla, on behalf of the public company Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias of which she is CEO, and the company AXA Seguros, represented on by the director of the Canary Islands Area, Auxiliadora Expósito, and Enrique Fernández, representing EM7 Risk Management and agent of AXA. Progress slow on Europe-wide implementation of new Directive

Nearly two months after the formal deadline given for the implementation of the new EU Timeshare Directive, only eleven European countries have completed the process. Work is continuing to reach the same level of consumer protection across the rest of Europe. The Directive has already been implemented in Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and the UK. Luxemburg and Slovakia are expected to have new legislation approved shortly whereas other countries including Spain are lagging behind in the process and have yet to confirm when the Directive will be implemented.
